Shalom everybody !!!

Today I wish to invite you to take a closer look at a DVD that was released at the end of April. You will be probably suprised to hear that this is actually the recording of the Polish pop-singer Justyna Steczkowska's performance at the three cultures festival Cracow 2001. The DVD entitled "Alkimja" just the same as Steczkowska's longplay is quite unusual because of its specific Jewish climate. The album itself was Justyna's tribute to her Jewish origin, therefore it is very personal for her and also very much different from her previous achievements. I admit that I was never particularly interested in Steczkowska's music, nevertheless "Alkimja" made me reconsider my opinion. The concert itself was really great not only because of the beautiful music but also because of wonderful acting and scenography. I must say I was astonished by the spectacle when I first saw it on TV, that is why I was very pleased to learn that finally this year there is going to be a DVD-edition of the concert. To sum up my invitation I give you a small teaser and I hope you will be willing to see the whole material.

Dear Diary,

Another hard day at school, I thought. Maybe I should stay in bed and try to forget about this horror. I really wish I could forget about my colleagues who keep disrespecting me. I wish I could break free from my awful class and all these mean students that keep laughing at me. Finally, I wish I could get my hands on that genious person who created this 'wonderful' institution.
All of a sudden I heard a familiar voice:

She: Get up sweetheart, time to go to school !
Me: But honey, I don't want to go there !
She: Oh, stop this nonsense Pawel, you have to go !
Me: Please, just let me stay in bed today ! I hate this place, nobody likes me there and I feel so depressed !
She: Pawel Goderski, get up immediately and get ready for school !
Me: But why can't I stay at home just for once ?
She: BECAUSE YOU'RE THE DAMN HEADMASTER !!!

Habemus Obama !!!

The US elections finally came to an end. After long months of presidential campaign the Americans decided that they want a radical change. After 8 years of Republican supremacy, the Democrates managed to return in full glory. First they secured majority in the US Senate and now their candidate - Barrack Obama became the 44th US president. The election itself was typically American. The knowledge and experience of the candidate as well as his readiness to face such challenge was the least important factor for the nation. It appears that the true intention of the Amerian citizens was to punish the Republicans for the gehenna of George Bush's leadership. Therefore, in my opinion Obama was very lucky to find himself in the middle of common dissatisfaction but he was also very wise to use it effectively in his campaign. The slogan of CHANGE worn by Barrack almost like a coat was a masterpiece of PR and the triumph of political marketing on the biggest scale imaginable. Let's only hope that this new media star will be as successful in his policy as he turned out to be in charming the society for the last two years. After all, is a man who cannot remember a few simple words of the presidential oath able to lead the world's most influential country in time of a huge economic crisis ? I regret to say but I seriously doubt it.

Mission: Teaching practice

Third year of studies at the TTC finally gave us an opportunity to check if we are able to use the theory in practice. I must say that teaching in real school turned out to be a really challenging experience, however this was just what I expected. My first lesson took place in a primary school and the group I taught was simply terrible. Most of the children misbehaved all the time and didn't want to cooperate at all. Moreover, they were really poor students, so it made my frustration even greater. Fortunately next few groups that I worked with appeared to be far more cooperative, consequently the lessons went on quite well. As a matter of fact, I enjoyed my teaching practice so much that even my diploma paper is going to be about teaching English in primary school. What is more, in order to do the action research part I'm going to have some additional lessons and I'm really looking forward to them.

Sith's childhood

Believe it or not but Dark Lords of the Sith can be in some cases quite cute children ;-). This image presents Me when I was about 7 years old. On my laps you can see my beloved dog - Bugsy. He was probably the fastest dachshund in the galaxy, unfortunately he got killed when a car ran over him. Anyway I hope you like this photo because it is very important for me. Actually, I haven't got many photos together with Bugsy since I had him only for few months.

Take care

Concerning music taste

When it comes to music I am probably one of the most tolerant people you can get. I really enjoy listening to ANY kind of music. Of course I have my favourite bands and artists, nevertheless many of them represent so different styles that it is difficult to find any logical reason why I like them. Perhaps, this is just another strange feature of the Sith Lord's personality. Well, let's see some examples.

As you probably deducted from the blog's layout I'm very fond of Star Wars films. As a fan I assure you, Star Wars would be nothing without its outstanding music composed by John Williams. Check out one of the most symbolic tracks of the whole Saga, the famous Imperial March.

I hope you have the right mood now as I'm going to present you one of my favourite artist's song. Eminem - is a white hip-hop star who broke the stereotype of black rapper's domination. This particular song is supported by Dido's vocal.

EMINEM - 'STAN'

I want also to introduce another hip-hop artist, this time he is black ;-). Although I like him, I think his recent achievements become worse and worse, but still see his earlier clip.

50 CENT FEAT. THE GAME - 'HATE IT OR LOVE IT'

Now to prove the contrast I already mentioned I give you a song performed by one of my favourite bands. My adventure with Linkin Park started with their album 'Hybrid Theory', this is why I want you to listen to a single entitled 'Crawling'

LINKIN PARK - 'CRAWLING'

Last but not least I hope you'll enjoy listening to a typical trance single performed by one of the best DJ's in Europe. You 'll now truly experience the diversity of my music interest and I hope you won't become negatively prejudice to my personality ;-) Enjoy

RTE - The place where it all started

If I am to describe the place where I live, I am not going to write about the beautiful, historical city of Poznan. Although it is really my hometown, I think it's better to focus specifically on my neighbourhood. As I already mentioned, Poznan itseflf is very attractive, full of interesting architecture and wonderful atmosphere. Nevertheless, apart from the Old Market, the City Hall and other symbols, the city has also less impressive areas. The so called giant bedrooms seem to serve as perfect examples. It so happened that I spent almost all my life living in such district, called Rataje. It is a huge complex of blocks most of which are monuments of the communist regime. Even though it seems that one cannot find anything interesting in such area, there are some aspects worth mentioning. Firstly, almost entire social structure can be found in a single block, fom lawyers to cleaners everybody share the same grey reality. Of course their flats look different from the inside, just as their social status is different, nevertheless they are all members of the same community and live very close to each other. Secondly, recent years brought some serious investments located in Rataje, therefore some new, useful infrastructure appeared. There are several large trade centres such as M1 or Ikea, there is also one of the biggest cinema centres in Poland - Cinema City Kinepolis. Well, I guess that's enough of the introduction, if you really wish to explore my beloved neighbourhood, come and see for yourself.
